About this place
Palazzo Pretorio dominates the upper part of Certaldo and preserves the coats of arms of the vicars who governed the area, both on its façade and inside. Once the home of the Alberti counts, it became the seat of civic power: its rooms, prisons and chapel reveal the different roles of the complex.
Beside the palace stands the Church of Saints Thomas and Prosper, part of the museum route, which houses Benozzo Gozzoli’s frescoes from the Tabernacle of the Condemned. The visit brings together architecture, painting and the history of public life in the village.
