Ruderi dell’Eremo di San Bonfilio

Cingoli · Marche

About this place

The ruins of the Hermitage of San Bonfilio lie in the wooded valley of Monte Nero. The site is linked to the saint’s retreat, where he died in 1115, and to the later thirteenth-century construction of the church and monastery. The surviving structures tell of monastic life in this part of the Cingoli area.

The complex is now in ruins, following collapses of the monastery and church roofs in the twentieth century. It is a destination for a woodland hike: before setting off, check the route, access and signs, and observe the remains from the permitted areas.
